Walking Tour – Beaufort Historic District

An afternoon stroll is a favorite way to see Beaufort. The private homes on this perennially popular tour are located in the city’s National Historic Landmark District and represent the variety of architectural styles built in the city over the past two hundred years. Among those ontour is the Elizabeth Hext House, c. 1805, which is one of several houses where local author Pat Conroy began his writing career. An exhibit curated by the University Archives at the University of South Carolina will open in the Verdier House (c. 1804) on October 23, 2015. The Verdier House is Historic Beaufort Foundation’s house museum.
Ramble Around Beaufort
Saturday, October 24 10 a.m.-3 p.m. or 11 a.m.-4 p.m. All properties close at 4 p.m.

Among the seven properties today are five on the Point including the LaBrasseur-Martinangle House (c. 1750) and the William Wigg Barnwell House (c. 1816). A pleasant drive from downtown into the ACE basin will take you to White Hall Plantation on the Combahee River where you may tour the beautiful gardens and grounds. Along the way visit the ruins of Prince Williams Parish at Sheldon – these ruins are an iconic Lowcountry landmark. Automobile transportation is required to visit the country sites.

Experience culinary Beaufort! Local chefs will create regional specialties in private kitchens. The homes are located in downtown Beaufort, on Pigeon Point and on Lady’s Island. Five chefs – five houses! A fun way to spend a Sunday afternoon! Automobile transportation required.
Tickets are limited to the capacity of the houses so early reservations are recommended.
